Squishy Face Flirt Pole
For fun games, exercise, and training.
How to use the flirt pole: It’s like a large version of a cat toy. Hold the flirt pole at the non-slip grip and spin it around you so that the lure at the end of the bungee moves erratically. To your dog, the lure will look and behave like a small prey animal. It taps into your dog’s predatory instinct and he will begin to chase it. Don’t move it too far away from your dog - tease your dog a bit - you want him to believe he has a chance to catch it. Eventually, let your dog grab it and parade it. You can also have a game of tug, before asking your dog to release the lure to restart the chase.
Benefits include
Your dog gets to chase something at high speed but he does it staying close to you (you are part of the picture). You become the source of great fun rather than other distractions in the environment - your dog wants to stay with you.
As a great reinforcer, especially brilliant for recall (coming back to you)
To teach impulse control (e.g., Wait until released before getting to chaser)
Thinking when aroused
Tolerance of frustration
Help your dog loose weight
Safety:
Start slowly until your dog gets fitter
No sharp turns or jumping for the lure for puppies under 18 month
Don’t play on slippery surfaces
